School Custodian
POSITION OVERVIEW
Join our team as a School Custodian and play a vital role in keeping our learning spaces safe, clean, and fully operational. In this hands-on position, you will manage daily custodial duties, perform light repairs, and serve as the main point of contact for our facility vendors. We are looking for a dependable professional whose technical skills and proactive care will help us maintain a high standard of safety and comfort for our students and educators.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Daily Operations & Cleaning
- Perform daily cleaning of school buildings, restrooms, and grounds adhering to health and safety best practices.
- Manage daily trash removal and maintain outdoor rubbish areas.
- Handle cafeteria setup, event preparation, and general facilities upkeep.
- Respond promptly to urgent maintenance needs, including spills and student accidents.
Facility Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine upkeep including painting, washing walls, and minor repairs.
- Clear snow and salt walkways during winter months to ensure safe campus access.
- Oversee small building maintenance projects and minor capital improvements.
Vendor & Contract Management
- Vendor Oversight: Working in conjunction with the Director of Ops may be required to provide oversight of external cleaning crews, coordinate school deliveries, and manage vendor relationships
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2+ years of experience in custodial work or facilities management (experience in a school setting is highly preferred).
- Ability to lift, bend, and pull more than 50 pounds.
- Flexibility to handle school emergencies outside of standard hours if needed.
- A strong commitment to driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of belonging within our school community.
Highly Preferred
- Strong foundational knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with the North Minneapolis community.
COMPENSATION
Salary: $32,000 - $35,000 DOQ
*To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the Regional NorthStar Public Schools pay scale and benefits package, which includes medical, dental, life, long-term disability, and retirement benefits, as well as an annual salary review and revision.
