POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and is responsible for the direct implementation of skill-acquisition and behavior reduction plans developed by the BCBA. The RBT provides assistance to children, families, educators and/or school administrators in providing an appropriate, safe learning environment to students enrolled in special education programs.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regular and prompt attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Interacts with students according to their Individual Treatment/Behavior Plan and/or Behavior Intervention Plan;
  • Observes and intervenes to redirect inappropriate behavior; 
  • Implements and monitors skill acquisition plans, behavior intervention and reduction plans;
  • Implements skill acquisition teaching procedures such as discrete trial teaching, naturalistic teaching procedures, task-analyzed chaining procedures; 
  • Implements contingencies of reinforcement, discrimination training, stimulus control transfer procedures, stimulus fading procedures, prompt and prompt fading procedures; 
  • Implements interventions based on modification of antecedents;
  • Implements data collection procedures;
  • Assists with individualized assessment procedures including functional assessment; 
  • Assists, monitors, and guides the student to complete tasks;
  • Implements approved de-escalation and crisis/emergency procedures according to protocol; 
  • Assists individual students as needed with skill development in dressing, eating, toileting, and other daily living skills;
  • Promotes a safe learning environment;
  • Responsible for participating in annual training;
  • Responsible for maintaining certification as a Registered Behavior Technician;
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support special education programs.
 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered Behavior Technician Credential
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check;
  • Successfully complete RBT training program and successfully pass exam.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with computers, word processing, spreadsheets, email, and electronic databases.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, timelines and deadlines. 


Highly Preferred 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of a Registered Behavior Technician;
  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality;
  • Ability to implement approved crisis prevention, de-escalation, and emergency procedures consistent with training, district policy, and applicable law.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff; 
  • Ability to handle every day, recurring basic assignments and problems;
  • Ability to apply regular and repetitive procedures; 
  • Ability to read and interpret basic workplace data; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and in writing; 
  • Ability to work with students individually and work in small groups;
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely;
  • Ability to use modern office equipment, technology, and related software; 
  • Ability to comply with applicable legal, regulatory and workplace reporting requirements.

COMPENSATION

Salary: $33,000+ DOQ

*To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the Regional NorthStar Public Schools pay scale and benefits package, which includes medical, dental, life, long-term disability, and retirement benefits, as well as an annual salary review and revision.
